Christmas countdown..... 4 "sleeps" to go....

I wasn't sure that I'd find my Christmas spirit this year.... but amazingly enough, a little one always manages to reach deep inside the depths and bring out your "missing" Christmas cheer.

We went to the Melba Fire Dept's Christmas dinner last Saturday night and what fun it was. Mike reprised his role of "Santa" and was a very good Santa! He always manages to find a way to make those kids smile. Even the ones who are on the brink of being teens! It was a night full of laughter and cheer. However, we celebrated the men and women who put their lives on the line each day for our fire department. Sadly, we bid adieu to Rick Sr, Sue, Wayne and Hank. All 4 have retired from the department. Amazingly, between the 4 of them there was nearly 100 years of experience combined with wisdom. But... we are leaving the department in good hands... John Engle will assume the title of Chief, but at this time, we're not sure who will be chosen to step into the Assistant Chief role, or Secretary Role. We have a good group of volunteers, so it will be different, but hopefully no one will "notice" the change at the top.

The weather here has been wild (as so often it is in Idaho) we had snow and freezing rain, after a week of below zero cold. Now, the fog seems to have settled in the valley. It seems to lift a bit during the day, but at night sets down hard. Visibility is really limited, so careful driving is a must!

During the week, I managed to get most of the Christmas shopping done, but I still have a boat-load of wrapping to do. Mike managed to get a couple of the "blow-up" decorations put in the yard and lights on the house. To my surprise, he even got the "pink tree" put up in the living room on Friday. Christmas cards and letters have been written and put in the mail. I still need a couple of addresses, but for the most part, all are done.

Today, we went to breakfast with Joe and Roland at Los Betos for Machaca... then to Sam's club for some last minute groceries. We did manage to get some good bargains. We found Christmas lights @ half-price, and also a tree skirt to go with the "pink tree". I know ... a pink tree is a bit strange, but it is pretty... I have it decorated with red ornaments, and red lace ribbon. The 1/2 price tree skirt is red too... so all in all it's very festive.

My boss, Gail, took all of us to lunch on Thursday @ Jakers restaurant for a bit of a Christmas celebration. I really am Blessed! I have the best Boss and best Co-workers!

I'm still not sure of the plans for Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.... without Grandma A, I'm not sure what we'll end up doing. Sister Kelly is flying to Mexico City with Sister Bobbi on Christmas Day... Joe will be working @ Intralot. Heather will have the day off, but I think they'll be going in to Nampa to spend the day with Heather's family. I will be able to have Christmas Eve and Christmas Day off from work. It will be a much needed break. Mike was able to get his vacation started on the 17th, and will be off until the 4th of January. (what a lucky duck ** big smile**)

I bought a frozen "fried turkey" to have for Christmas Dinner, but I'm not sure what day we'll actually "celebrate" Christmas. Last night, Mike and I watched the movie "Scrooged" and also "Elf" I love those two movies... they both make me laugh, but for different reasons.

We're still waiting on the Bosch parts (coming from Germany) to get my washer repaired, so I guess it'll be one more week of the "fire dept laundromat" he he ha ha ha....

Dad came by yesterday, and we were able to get him his Christmas gift this year... a new seat for his Harley! He was thrilled! He and Barbara B. will be heading to McCall on Tuesday (22nd) and will spend the Holiday in McCall with her kids. They plan to be up there past the New year. I'm not sure when they'll be back in town.

Well, I guess I've spent enough time trying to remember, and write all this good stuff down... now.... off to start wrapping, cooking, and generally trying to get my "Christmas act" together.

PS... I've put a copy of the infamous "Christmas letter" below...

**********************************************************************************

Yes..... It's that dreaded Christmas "letter"! So pour yourself a BIG glass of your favorite wine and settle in for lots of bragging. (We do have the cutest grandson EVER) Oh yeah, and we didn’t win the lottery. ha ha ha...

Not much changes here @ our place, so I really don't have a lot to "update" you on. So, to spare you the gory details, and not bore you outta your mind... I'll just wish you a

VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS, and a BLESSED NEW YEAR.

Remember to say "I love you" to your family, friends, and all the wonderful people that we have in our lives. May God help you "fill in your dash" with the things that make you happy!

Oh, Yeah…..about that glass of wine…. Celebrate and toast to a really good 2009 and to the promise of 2010.

Love Always...

Mike & Lori-Lynne
